MSF Basic RiderCourse (BRC) (a core curriculum of approximately 16 hours, typically scheduled for 20 hours done over 2 or 2 ½ days)

The best place for a new rider to start once they’ve made the decision to ride. Successful completion of this course and its knowledge and skill tests, which consists of approximately five hours of classroom and 10 hours of on-cycle instruction (conducted over two or three sessions), may serve as a license test waiver program in some states. Motorcycles and helmets are provided for your use during the course. Also, a course completion card may provide a rider an insurance discount.

For NYS residents, YOU MUST have a NYS Driver’s License to participate; you MUST have a NYS Motorcycle Permit AND a NYS Driver’s License to be eligible for a MSF Course Completion Card for the NYSDMV to consider this class for your motorcycle licensure.

This means you can obtain your motorcycle permit before OR after the class!

MSF Introductory Motorcycle Experience (IME) – (a 2 hour course)

A two-hour, first-touch experience with a motorcycle and not designed to teach a person to ride. As a familiarization program that points out the primary parts and controls of a typical motorcycle, it helps a potential rider determine whether motorcycling is a good personal choice. A person is given the option to manipulate the controls while astride a motorcycle, and is led into a BRC as a formal way to learn to ride. Also embedded in the experience is a self-assessment component to ensure a person is aware of the risks and requirements for being a good, safe and responsible rider.

MSF Basic RiderCourse 2 – License Waiver (BRC2 LW) – (a 1/2 day course)

This course is an 8-hour course that contains a unique on-line classroom segment as a pre-requisite and also offers a variety of practice riding exercises designed to further develop your riding skills on your own motorcycle. The riding exercises conclude with a skills test. In order for a participant to earn their NYSMSP BRC2-LW License Waiver Completion Card they must successfully complete the eCourse (on-line) and the skills evaluation on the range. It is designed for individuals that have had some street riding experience and have held a valid New York State Motorcycle Permit for at least 1 calendar year, and possess some street riding skills. You’ll practice these critical riding skills on your own motorcycle in our secure riding setting. Successful completion of a BRC2-LW qualifies you for a motorcycle license road test-waiver with the New York State DMV. Skip the trip to DMV and sign up today for a NYSMSP BRC2-LW, your fast track to getting your Motorcycle License!

MSF Basic RiderCourse 2 – Skills Practice (BRC2-SP) [formerly ERC Suite] – (a 1/2 day course)

For riders who already have basic skills. It is similar to the BRC except the speeds are higher and riders should be riding their own motorcycle. It is an excellent refresher course for practicing and renewing basic riding skills. There is an informal classroom component that discusses safety concepts based on past riding experiences and current knowledge. It is a perfect way to reinforce basic skills on one’s personal motorcycle. Passengers are permitted with a licensed operator on a personal motorcycle.

MSF Advanced RiderCourse (ARC) [formerly ARC-ST] – (a one day course)

A one-day course that complements a rider’s basic skills and helps with personal risk assessment. It includes a fast-paced classroom segment with several interactive activities to improve perception and hazard awareness. Range exercises enhance both basic skills and crash avoidance skills. Improving braking and cornering finesse is emphasized. The course is beneficial for riders on any type of street motorcycle.

MSF Basic Bike Bonding RiderCourse (BBBRC) – (a ½ day course)

Bike Bonding refers to the connection and interaction of the rider and motorcycle. The overall aim of the BBBRC is to help riders develop smooth and precise control as they manipulate primary motorcycle controls and practice their riding procedures and techniques. Good bike bonding helps riders automate their physical skills so they can devote more attention to road and traffic conditions (searching and evaluating).

MSF Ultimate Bike Bonding RiderCourse (UBBRC) – (a ½ day course)

Bike bonding refers to the connection and interaction of the rider and motorcycle. The overall aim of the UBBRC is to help riders develop smooth and precise control as they manipulate primary motorcycle controls and develop their riding procedures and techniques. Good bike bonding helps riders automate their physical skills so they can devote more attention to road and traffic conditions (searching and evaluating). This course has an overall aim to help riders focus on manipulating the primary controls and practice low-speed riding techniques. The UBBRC allows participants to refine skills via low-speed, limited-space exercises.
